About Surfing - An Overview
There are so many types of surfing these days which allow a surfer to use different methods and boards to ride a wave that I thought I’d better outline them. I’ve tried all of these but m,ust say I’m still addicted to surfing with a classic 6’9 inch gun surfboard. Now about surfing......
Having said that I recently tried my hand at kitesurfing and aside from nearly breaking my neck coming off the back of a 20 footer at Cloud 9 in the Philippines I had a ball. That was my mistake though. Wish I had a picture. It must have looked frigging hilarious!!!
Now your main types of surfing are as follows:
Surfing has enjoyed a mystic or even spiritual relationship with the ocean and surfers for hundreds of years going back to when Hawaiian kings used to surf onto waves with wooden surfboards from their canoes
Even today there is an essence which is the core of the surfing culture dedicated to the practice of riding waves – small, medium and huge!! (LINK TO NEW PAGE ON BIG WAVE SURFING)
A serious and well trained surfer usually checks the local surf conditions early in the morning as the wind is normally calm and has probably also checked the day’s prospects for a good swell by accessing onlinesurf reports, swell predictions, weather reports, and tide tables.
